Season two of Wednesday is creepier… gorier…
And the stage for which Princess Diaries’ Heather Matarazzo—who played Mia’s BFF Lilly in the franchise—makes her epic return to screens. Indeed, Heather is one of many new actors tapped to help bring season two to life alongside returners Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Fred Armisen and Emma Myers.
Heather, for her part, portrays a character named Judi, an employee of nearby (and new to audiences) Willow Hill Psychiatric Facility. Willow Hill is a home for outcasts in need of care—including murderous Hyde Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan), who finds himself a patient at the facility at the season’s start.
Judi is the chipper executive assistant to chief psychiatrist Dr. Rachael Fairburn (Thandiwe Newton). And while Judi is all smiles leading art therapy for the outcasts at Willow Hill, her happy demeanor begins to crack after crossing paths with the dour Wednesday.
But to know just how Heather’s Judi will weave into the black fabric of season two, fans will have to tune in. Luckily, the wait is nonexistent: the first four episodes are available now on Netflix, with part two due to be released on Sept. 3.
Heather joins an acclaimed ring of actors making their first spooktacular appearance in the second installment of the Tim Burton Netflix series, others being Haley Joel Osment, Steve Buscemi, Christopher Lloyd and Billie Piper.
But while Heather was a feature on screens throughout the ‘90s and aughts, Wednesday marks a rare return to the spotlight for the 42-year-old.
In fact, she has previously detailed feeling “cast aside” by Hollywood.
"I feel at a loss because I feel I have done THE WORK, for a long time, with no complaint,” she wrote in a series of tweets on X, then Twitter, in 2022. “I have taken the disappointments, the rejections, etc., and maintained that rejection is redirection. I have had continual FAITH in the Universe, but today, something broke.”
The Welcome to the Dollhouse star added, “I've given my life to acting for over 30 years and am done struggling just to survive. I just need a win. A life-changing win. Cause this ain't it."
Perhaps that life-changing win came in the form of Wednesday, which introduces Heather to a new generation of fans.
But when she hasn’t been working on projects, in recent years Heather has enjoyed life in Michigan with her wife Heather Turman, having moved to her wife’s home state after realizing they didn’t love life in Los Angeles.
"I just love it here so much," Heather said of her new home in a 2024 TikTok. "There's such an abundance of nature, and everyone's just been so incredibly kind."
