There are a lot more than seven things to love about Miley Cyrus' arrival at the Met Gala 2025.
The Grammy winner made the climb up the Metropolitan Museum of Art steps in New York on May 5 and showcased her abs in a belly-baring black gown by Alaïa. (Check out all the celebs at the gala here.)
The all-black look featured a long skirt and a leather turtleneck top, which she paired with a gold choker.
Of course, it should come as no surprise that she went all out for the ball. Because when it comes to her approach to fashion, well, she's just being Miley.
"Fashion to me is kind of flipping yourself inside out," the singer told Vogue in 2021. "It's like wearing your heart, wearing your guts, wearing your values, wearing your identity, wearing your pain, wearing your joy."
In fact, Miley noted the process of choosing a look can feel "childlike" in a way.
"You're so fearless when you get yourself dressed when you're a kid," she continued. "You don't think about what someone will think of you or what they'll judge. It's just about expression and how you feel that day. There's a fearlessness. And so when I get dressed, I try to kind of think like my inner child, and be genuine and authentic in whatever I'm wearing."
If your memory of the last time Miley attended the Met Gala is beginning to slide away, allow us to help. She previously went to the Costume Institute Benefit in 2019, when she wore coordinating Saint Laurent ensembles with her then-husband Liam Hemsworth. But just three months later, the "Flowers" artist and The Hunger Games actor announced their breakup—with them finalizing their divorce in 2020.
Miley and Liam's split came after less than a year of marriage (though they dated on and off for about a decade). And while their love story didn't work out, she wouldn't remove their chapter together.
"I wouldn't erase my story or want it to be erased," Miley, who is now dating drummer Maxx Morando, told British Vogue last year. "Having an interesting life makes for interesting storytelling."
As for the story being told at this year's Met Gala, the menswear-inspired dress code is "Tailored for You" and the exhibit “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” centers around “sartorial style" in forming Black identities.
Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, inspired the Costume Institute exhibit, which explores Black men’s use of style to “transform identities” and “imagine new ways of embodying political and social possibilities.”
And Miley isn't the only big name in attendance with Oscar nominee Colman Domingo, F1 racer Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James all serving on the host committee alongside Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
