It's an extra special night at the 2024 Emmys for Zuri Hall.
While the Access Hollywood host has covered the red carpet at the Emmys before, she's wearing a custom gown she designed at the Sept. 15 ceremony.
"I always wanted to design my own awards season gown, one day!" she told E! News ahead of the red carpet. "I’ve been blessed enough to work in Hollywood for nearly a decade now…and develop a strong personal style. So I know what I like, and what works on long days like this."
"You’ve gotta bring the glamour, but it needs to be practical and functional," Hall—a Live From E!: Countdown to the Emmys co-host—explained. "I prefer gowns you don’t have to fuss over, too much—once I’m in it, I’m in it!"
For the milestone occasion, Hall collaborated with her stylist and friend Roberto Cardenaz.
As for the story behind the gown? "I knew I wanted my first design ever to perfectly represent my quintessential red carpet style: effortless elegance, with a bit of edge," she told E!. "My favorite color palette to play in is rich, warm neutrals—ivory, camel, chocolate. I felt like the brown silk in this design was perfect, as we step into autumn."
"The silk made for an easy, luxurious drape with beautiful ruching from the high neckline," she continued, "and I’m obsessed with the dark brown leather collar—it’s sexy, strong, and adds that edginess. It was a fun plot twist that we were really excited about adding to the design—that juxtaposition of silk and leather."
The timeframe from when the trio landed on a final design sketch to Hall's final fitting was about four weeks and a total of 40 hours. And it's an experience they'll never forget.
"Working with Zuri as a stylist over the last eight years has been an amazing working relationship," Cardenaz told E!. "I love that she has always allowed, and even encouraged me to push her out of comfort zone. This design was inspired from the idea of sexy mythology, but with a modern day twist and versatile silhouette."

And the final result is everything Hall was hoping for and more.
"This gown really embodies all of my style," she shared. "The silk is so delicious! It’s sexy, elegant and drapes so effortlessly. It accentuates my curves in a subtle way, that I love. And we were obsessed with the idea of a leather, choker-like neckline! Strong. Sexy. A little edgy, which is a fun contrast to feminine, sensual silk. Get you a girl who can do both!”
As for where Hall got the passion for design?
"My Grandma Ruth was a seamstress her entire life," the Ohio native shared. "I grew up watching her sew on her machine, while we children played nearby, in the very home that she raised my father and aunts in."
"When grandma was away from her machine I would snoop around…exploring the pin cushions, sewing needles, colored threads, and fabrics, the sewing patterns and design prints," she continued. "I was fascinated. And ever since then, I’ve wanted to pick up where she left off.”
And she did just that for the 2024 Emmys.
