Conan O'Brien must host!
The Emmy-winning TV personality will host the 2025 Academy Awards in March, the Academy confirmed, taking over for fellow late-night staple Jimmy Kimmel, who helmed the last two Oscars.
"America demanded it, and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme," the 61-year-old said in a statement Nov. 15. "In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars."
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences CEO Bill Kramer and president Janet Yang praised the Conan alum in their announcement of the news.
"We are thrilled and honored to have the incomparable Conan O’Brien host the Oscars this year," they said in a joint statement. "He is the perfect person to help lead our global celebration of film with his brilliant humor, his love of movies, and his live TV expertise."
They continued, "His remarkable ability to connect with audiences will bring viewers together to do what the Oscars do best—honor the spectacular films and filmmakers of this year."
Oscars executive producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan echoed those sentiments in a statement of their own.
"Conan has all the qualities of a great Oscars host — he is incredibly witty, charismatic and funny and has proven himself to be a master of live event television,” they gushed. “We are so looking forward to working with him to deliver a fresh, exciting and celebratory show for Hollywood’s biggest night."
While Jimmy, who has hosted the ceremony four times, has become a staple of the Oscars stage for the last few years, before him, Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes hosted the ceremony in 2022.
While this is Conan's first time hosting the Oscars, it won't be his first time at the helm of a major awards show. The comedian hosted the Emmy Awards in 2002 and 2006, in addition to the 2014 MTV Movie Awards.
Conan is best known for hosting Late Night with Conan O'Brien, which he hosted from 1993 until 2009, and Conan, which ran from 2010 until 2021. He currently hosts the podcast Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend.
The 2025 Academy Awards are set to air on ABC March 2.
