Taylor Swift loves Andrea Swift for staying back and watching her shine.
And the “Karma” singer proved as much after her Nov. 21 Eras Tour show in Toronto, when she headed off stage and directly into her mom’s arms.
In a video that captured the moment on X, formerly Twitter, Taylor, 34, struts off the stage and waves to the crowd around her, before wrapping her mom in a hug as “The Alchemy” plays over the stadium speakers.
Andrea—who shares Taylor and her brother Austin Swift, 32, with husband Scott Swift—sweetly pats her daughter on her back before whispering something in her ear, and then the mother-daughter duo make their way backstage together, walking behind a curtain arm-in-arm.
The moment was far from rare when it comes to Taylor proving her love for her mom. Indeed, the Miss Americana star speaks frequently about how close she feels to the 66-year-old.
“My conversations with my mom have always been and will always be some of my favorite memories,” Taylor wrote in a heartfelt Mother’s Day post in 2020. “Our talks are everything to me. Myyyyyyyy goodness I love you Mom.”
Taylor often shows off her love for her mom in her songwriting, too. On Lover, the “Fortnight” singer penned a heartfelt tribute amid her mother’s cancer battle with “Soon You’ll Get Better.” And on Fearless, she included a song that was originally a Christmas present for Andrea, “The Best Day,” which she performed during The Eras Tour’s stop in Philadelphia last year.
The performance, however, was a rare one—as Taylor’s emotions often get the best of her when it comes to celebrating her mom.
“It’s a song that’s still pretty hard for me to play in concerts,” Taylor admitted of “The Best Day” in a 2016 interview, feigning tears, “Because I’m just like, ‘I love you Mom.’”
But some of Taylor’s other songs also include nods to Andrea, including “thanK you aIMee,” which includes the lyrics, “Everyone knows that my mother is a saintly woman, but she used to say she wished that you were dead.”
And during a June performance when Taylor included the track in her surprise song set, Andrea enthusiastically waved her arms around from the VIP tent—as many fans cheered on—upon hearing the lyric.
