Jodie Turner-Smith didn't want to wait for her daughter to see Wicked.
With the film adaptation captivating fans in theaters, the Queen & Slim star revealed that she recently took her and ex Joshua Jackson's 4-year-old daughter Juno to see the Wizard of Oz prequel on Broadway.
"Listen, I know that she's a bit young," Jodie explained on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Nov. 26, "but I just felt like Wicked is now about to be in the zeitgeist in a whole other way, now that Cynthia Erivo undoubtedly has slayed this performance. And I was just like, 'I just need her to take her the play in before the movie.'"
She also admitted that Juno had a lot of questions since she hadn't even seen The Wizard of Oz yet.
"I just love Wicked so much and it's my favorite musical," the 38-year-old explained of her decision to take her daughter. "I just love it. I was eager. I was keen. I wasn't the only one with a 4½-year-old in there."
For Jodie, who married the Dawson's Creek alum in 2019 before filing for divorce in 2023, motherhood has been a gift in all facets of her life.
"Honestly, my favorite thing about myself is that I'm that girl's mother," she gushed on Today with Hoda & Jenna in June. "I'm just so grateful that she chose me to be her mom, that I got to have that gift in life. It is my favorite thing. It is an honor."
"I feel like it was our birthright to mother—whether we bring our children or not, I think it's is a woman's birthright," she continued. "We hold space for those around us. It has shifted everything about me. It has only enriched me. It has shown me, No. 1, how powerful I am. Like, whoa! Supreme Being!"
While Jodie and Joshua are no longer together, the After Yang actress knows that having an amicable co-parenting dynamic is crucial.
"It's an adjustment period for anyone when they split up with someone because you're used to being with your child all the time," she told Glamour last month. "But nobody hands you a manual. Everyone's trying to figure it out. Each parent has a different life, and especially if the reason why you're splitting up is because you have different lives, it's only further complicated by how you're going to co-parent."
As for her thoughts on Joshua, who previously dated Lupita Nyong'o, moving on from their romance?
"He can do whatever he wants," she noted. "Just be good to Juno and be good to Juno's mum because I'm going to be Juno's mum forever. It's really not for me to have an opinion on his journey."
