Nikki Garcia Shares What She’s Most “Heartbroken” About After Artem Chigvintsev Split

"You dream of having this family, and you have this incredible love," she continued, "and it just goes the other way. And you go from having a great love story to having a terrible one, and—never saw any of it coming. You know, as far as what the ending would be. So it's just been a struggle."

The Total Bellas alum also shared insight into her personal wellbeing following the split, and how she made sure to keep Matteo her priority.

"I've been so shocked, like beyond words, and it's been heartbreaking," she added. "You lose your appetite, you cry a lot. And then I also stepped up and made sure everything was okay for Matteo. And so it's just been—I don't even know what other words to use."

And amid all the outside noise from the fallout of their public breakup, Nikki held onto her viewpoint.

"The one thing that I have realized disconnecting from the world, it's when you know the truth, nothing else matters," she explained. "So when some of you would come to me and tell me what people were saying or what was out there, it would affect me in some way, but because I know the truth, and I actually lived it, it didn't have a big effect on me."

As she noted, "All I need to do is focus on my healing. I need to focus on Matteo's healing."

Nikki’s update comes just two weeks after she and Artem finalized their divorce and agreed to drop the domestic violence restraining orders they’d filed against each other “in an effort to move on with their lives and effectively co-parent their son,” Nikki’s rep confirmed to E! News.

For his part, Artem has echoed Nikki’s wish that their son remain the couple’s priority throughout their proceedings. He also shared a statement expressing his gratitude after the domestic violence charges against him were dropped by local prosecutors after evaluating the evidence.

"I am incredibly relieved and grateful that the domestic violence charges against me have been dropped," Artem, 42, said in a Sept. 25 statement to E! News. "This has been an extremely difficult time for me. I am thankful that the truth has prevailed."

He added of Matteo, “He is my world, and being his father is the greatest blessing in my life. All along, my main concern has been for him. I am committed to continuing to provide him with the love, support, and care he needs as we move forward.”
