Watch: Anderson Cooper Shares What Really Hit Him During Viral Hurricane Coverage

Anderson Cooper is here to report what exactly went down during Hurricane Milton

In October, the Anderson Cooper 360 host was on the frontlines of Hurricane Milton coverage in Brandenton, Fla., when the world watched him get hit in the head by a piece of flying debris.

And now, he can confirm exactly what it was.

“I got hit by something, which I gotta say, I thought I had accomplished some things in my career, I thought that I had gotten some things of note or memorable things,” Anderson said during The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Dec. 4 in a joint appearance with BFF Andy Cohen. “The next day, Andy called me up and he’s like ‘Have you Googled yourself?’ and he said do it, so I did.”

Anderson admitted that he was shocked by the number of articles written about the viral moment but had to clear the air about one thing.

“There were more articles where like the headline was ‘Anderson Cooper gets hit in the head by debris—hit by debris,’” he noted. “It was a piece of Styrofoam.”

Stressing the debris in question, he added, “I just want to point out and none of these hundreds of articles said it was Styrofoam.”

Stephen couldn’t help but joke about the public’s perception of the anchor.

“People don’t have faith in your bone density,” he quipped to Anderson. “They think you have the skull of a sparrow.”

As for Andy, he noted that Anderson’s viral mishap resulted in the masses tasking him with making sure his cohost can drink on New Year’s Eve telling Stephen, “The real off shoot was, what I got was ‘Andy, you need to serve this man plenty of alcohol on New Years because of what he has been through this year.’”

The public got their wish, Anderson and Andy—who in 2022 were barred by CNN from consuming alcohol on air—will drink as they host this year’s New Years Eve celebration.

In October, Andy confirmed that he plans to make sure that his dear friend is boozy as they ring in 2025.

“Yes! You bet,” the Watch What Happens Live host told Variety in an interview published Oct. 20. “After what Anderson did in that hurricane, I’m not only giving him tequila, I’m throwing it at him.”
