Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's Shameik Moore is speaking out after weaving a web of speculation with regard to his costar Hailee Steinfeld.
After the actress and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen announced their engagement Nov. 29, Moore wrote on X, formerly Twitter, "There's still more people to meet. More opportunities to come. And more chances to try. Live, learn, apply."
And as his post went viral, many fans speculated that he may have been responding to Hailee’s and that he may have feelings for the Pitch Perfect 3 alum, who voices his character Miles Morales' love interest Gwen Stacy in the 2023 animated film.
However, Shameik quickly set the record straight. "Had no idea Hailee is engaged!” he quote in a since-deleted X post, circulating around social media. "That’s amazing, I’m here reflecting on my 2024 goals that are rolling over into 2025. Gods timing."
After deleting his initial thoughts, he followed up with, "Also crazy what yall decide to engage with when I post."
His thoughts on the matter didn’t stop there as he later addressed the drama while at a fan convention.
"It’s been a tough weekend, my brother," the 29-year-old explained during a panel at the Fan Expo San Francisco 2024 Dec. 1, per Screen Rant. "The internet’s been killing me, I’m sorry."
Beyond the drama, Shameik also expressed what it was like reteaming with Hailee on 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
"The second movie Hailee and I worked more," he said, also noting he was able to collaborate with more members of the creative team like co-director Kemp Powers and writers Chris Miller and Phil Lord.
He continued, "So I’m always talking to older men every time either in person or whatever the lines are. And so, I spoke about how fun it was or how much easier it was working with my co-star. And then these video clips got put together."
And he later expressed how frustrating it was to see his words taken so broadly out of context, pointing to the real-world ramifications.
"There's no way, especially in today's moment and time, all the stuff going on in the workspace, there is no way I could be making someone uncomfortable and it be okay in reality," he said in an Instagram Live session later shared on his TikTok Dec. 4. "On social media, it's fun and games. In reality, I would lose my job. Keep that in mind."
