Suri Cruise is home for Christmas.
After the Carnegie Mellon University student finished her first semester of college, she made an appearance in a special video celebrating mom Katie Holmes’ 46th birthday backstage at Our Town on Broadway.
In a video Katie shared to her Instagram Story Dec. 18, Suri appears along with the Our Town cast to surprise her mom with a rendition of “Happy Birthday” with everyone holding signs of old Hollywood actors. Alongside the video Katie wrote, “Love you all.”
The 18-year-old, for her part, dons jeans, a white T-shirt, choker necklace and huge grin as she sings her mother the Birthday tune, holding a sign of Robert Redford that also reads, “Happy B-Day Katie.”
And while the touching moment was much-appreciated by the Batman Begins star, who danced along as the cast and her daughter sang to her, it wasn’t the only moment of appreciation she expressed to her daughter on her special day.
“I am so grateful for all my blessings,” the Dawson’s Creek alum wrote in a separate Instagram Story post earlier that day, alongside a photo of a bouquet of purple roses, “especially my daughter.”
Indeed, Suri—whom Katie shares with ex Tom Cruise—has been making her mother quite proud this year. After all, she graduated high school this summer, and promptly moved out of the city to pursue a degree at the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based university.
For Katie, the life change has been bittersweet.
“Of course, I will miss the close proximity,” Katie admitted to Town & Country in August. “but I'm really proud of her and I'm happy.”
Katie also couldn’t help but effuse over the new chapter her daughter was embarking on.
“I remember being this age, this time of beginnings," she continued. "It's exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that.”
