Jamie Foxx is just happy to be alive, so winning another award would just be gravy at this point.

A nominee for Best Stand-Up Comedy Performance, Television at the 2025 Golden Globes on Jan. 5 for his special What Had Happened Was, in which he delved into the life-threatening brain bleed and stroke he suffered in 2023 in hilarious, heartwarming fashion, the Oscar winner is appreciating his view from a whole new vantage point.

"You know how you take a picture on your cell phone and you hit that first filter and it brightens up?" he exclusively told Zuri Hall on Live From E!: Golden Globes. "That's how life looks now. Everything is altered." (And see all the stars who hit the red carpet at the Golden Globes in living color.)

"We cliche so much, 'Live life like it's your last,'" Foxx continued. "But when it actually happens to you, you appreciate it more. I appreciate these moments more. My two daughters in the back," he added, gesturing behind him, "kept me alive, Corinne Marie and Anelise. And I'm just blessed, man, 'cause it was over."

He thanked Netflix "for allowing me to tell that type of story," and also shouted out inspirations George Carlin and Richard Pryor for paving the way by taking the stage in their day to talk about their own health scares.

"I drew upon that," he said, "but what was interesting about the special was, I couldn't take it out and show it to anybody. So at 1:28 every day, I went downstairs to my makeshift stage" and worked it out with his team for three months.

Then he got onstage in Atlanta, "without ever practicing any of that material, and they took care of us," Foxx added. "I'm glad it was received well. I'm about to go out and do some funny-funny though...I had to do this first, though. I had to let people know in my way what it was, and it's been received so well."

And telling his story how he had to tell it could win the Ray star his second Golden Globe.
