Watch: Jimmy Carter’s Funeral: Donald Trump, Barack Obama & More Leaders Attend

Jimmy Carter's loved ones and fellow public figures are paying their respects to the former president.

Nearly two weeks after Carter passed away at the age of 100, President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden as well as President-Elect Donald Trump and Melania Trump, gathered at the Washington National Cathedral Jan. 9 for the funeral services.

Joining in the remembrances for the former president were fellow former U.S. leaders Barack Obama—who was without Michelle ObamaBill Clinton and George W. Bush, along with their wives Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush.

In fact, for the first time since 2018, all five living presidents—Biden, Trump, Obama, Clinton and Bush—are together under one roof. The last time they formed a united front was at George H. W. Bush's Dec. 2018 funeral.

Other attendees at Carter's service included King Charles III's brother, Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, who arrived from overseas to attend the ceremony and was seated by Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Carter, the 39th president of the United States, died on Dec. 29, the Carter Center announced in a statement, noting he passed away peacefully at his home Plains, Georgia, surrounded by family. Following the funeral services in Washington, D.C., Carter's body will be flown to Georgia, where he will be laid to rest alongside his late wife, former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, who died in Nov. 2023 at the age of 96.

Prior to attending Carter's funeral, many fellow politicians paid tribute to the former leader.

"President Carter taught all of us what it means to live a life of grace, dignity, justice, and service," the Obamas wrote on Instagram Dec. 29. "Michelle and I send our thoughts and prayers to the Carter family, and everyone who loved and learned from this remarkable man."

Meanwhile, Biden reflected on his bond with Carter.

"Over six decades, Jill and I had the honor of calling Jimmy Carter a dear friend," he wrote on X, formerly Twitter, Dec. 29. "But, what’s extraordinary about Jimmy Carter, though, is that millions of people throughout America and the world who never met him thought of him as a dear friend as well."

And Vice President Kamala Harris, who received Carter's vote in the 2024 Presidential Election, addressed the magnitude of his impact.

"Our world is a better place because of President Carter," Harris, who delivered a eulogy in Carter's honor this week, shared on Instagram Dec. 29. "His life and legacy continue to inspire me — and will inspire generations to come."
