Allison Holker is sharing where she’s coming from.
After the widow of Stephen “tWitch” Boss—who died by suicide in December 2022—received backlash from other members of his inner circle as well as fans for her upcoming memoir This Far, where she detailed the DJ’s private battle with drugs, she shared a statement explaining her purpose for going public with her story.
“To fans of Stephen and our family and friends,” Allison wrote in a lengthy note on her Instagram Story Jan. 8. “I want to be clear that my only intention in writing the book is to share my own story as well as part of my life with Stephen to help other people. Just like you.”
Indeed, Allison—who shares kids Weslie, 16, Maddox, 8, and Zaia, 5, with Stephen—explained that her book and tell-all interviews have been an attempt to make sense of her loss.
“I never really knew what happened, and even as I am trying to put pieces together, I will never really know,” she continued. “If you decide to read the book, hopefully you’ll see my intention is to celebrate the love and life I shared with Stephen and our three beautiful children.”
She continued, “And also the more complex aspects of both of our lives.”
In an interview with People, Allison detailed some parts of her upcoming memoir, which is set to release next month, including discovering a “cornucopia” of drugs hidden in her late husband’s closet days before his funeral, as well as journal entries where he shares allusions to childhood sexual abuse from a male family member.
On Instagram, Allison also emphasized that her sole reason in coming forward with Stephen’s story is to help others who are dealing with the same issues—noting that she worked with mental health organizations like NAMI and The Defensive Line to inform her writing and activism.
“I hope that by sharing our full story maybe I can help someone else who might see themselves or a loved one in Stephen,” she continued. “All of my proceeds from this book are going to fund the mental health focused foundation I started in Stephen’s honor, Move with Kindness. My hope is that we don’t need to lose another husband, brother, father or friend to suicide.”
And despite Stephen’s loved ones including his brother Dré Rose and friend Courtney Ann Platt pushing against Allison’s stance, with Courtney alleging Allison’s book airs out “dirty laundry,” from Stephen’s past in a Jan. 7 Instagram post, she maintained that her late husband would support her decision.
“I believe that if Stephen were able to choose, he would choose to have his story told if it meant saving even one life,” she concluded. “Much love to all those who have supported our family these many years.”
