What Scarlett Johansson Is Teaching Daughter Rose About Dating

Scarlett Johansson is a mom of a tween, and with that comes great responsibility—and new and awkward conversation topics.

The Avengers star shared rare insight into her parenting journey with Rose Dorothy Dauriac, 10, her daughter with ex-husband Romain Dauriac, and the advice she gave her about dating and dealing with crushes.

"I just had this conversations with my 10-year-old daughter about ghosting," Scarlett said while guest cohosting Today Jan. 29, "because there was this little boy that liked her, and then she wasn't feelings the same. And then she just stopped talking to him, straight up, and he felt terrible."

The 40-year-old continued, "And I was telling her, I introduced the ghosting concept. It really makes the other person feel terrible about themselves and it kind of sets them on this, like, spiral. I can say this because I'm so that person that's the ghost. I hate confrontation. I hate it."

Scarlett—who also shares son Cosmo, 3, with husband Colin Jost—added that she has also been on the other side of a silent breakup, as someone who has been "ghosted" herself.

"I think the worst part about that is that, at least when you're dumped, you're like, 'OK, it's over.' Whatever they said, it's face to face," she said. "Even on a phone call, like you're like, 'OK, I get it, I could process this.' Honestly, being ghosted is awful because you're just left with no answers at all. And you're thinking, 'Oh my god, did I do something?'

Scarlett added, "It haunts you for years."

The Black Widow actress, who began guest cohosting Today Jan. 21 following Hoda Kotb's departure earlier this month, also shared another lesson she’s passed on to Rose.

When cohost Jenna Bush Hager asked for advice when a viewer felt slighted by not being invited by friends on a group trip, Scarlett revealed that her daughter went through a similar problem recently.

"The truth is, if they didn't invite you, you were not invited," Scarlett said. "I say to my daughter too, I'm like, 'People have boundaries. Sometimes friends want to hang out with other friends. That's OK. That doesn't mean they don't like you.'"
