Clea Shearer is sharing an unexpected update in her health journey.
More than two years after the Home Edit cofounder shared she was officially cancer free after being diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2022, Shearer is opening up about having to undergo surgery for an eighth time.
“I didn’t expect to need surgery today,” Shearer wrote alongside a Jan. 28 Instagram post. “Two days ago, my doctor noticed a wound at my incision site that was open to my implant. He took one look at it and said, ‘what are you doing on Monday?’ My heart sank because I knew what was coming next. Time for another operation.”
As the Netflix star noted, "And since it had to happen immediately, I wasn’t going to have time to mentally prepare."
"Back in November, I celebrated what I *thought* was my final surgery (at least for a long while)," she continued. "Lucky number 7 was going to be it! But two months later, I’m at the hospital about to go in for my 8th. The scary part about today’s surgery is that there’s a good chance it leads to my 9th."
Shearer went on to share that she's also preparing for the possibility that swapping out her implant might not be the final solution, noting, "in which case I’ll need a larger reconstruction that uses tissue from my latissimus dorsi muscle in my back."
"But for now, I’m going to focus on getting through this surgery before I worry about needing the next one," the professional organizer—who shares kids Stella, 13, and son Sutton, 10, with husband John Shearer—explained. "The good news is that I’m a pro at this point…I can get into my robe, hair net, and yellow socks in record time. Even John has a routine in the cafeteria. We are unfortunately, very good at this. Fingers crossed for a good outcome!"
Shearer previously opened up about finding the positivity in her health journey three months after she was diagnosed with stage 1 invasive mammary carcinoma, an aggressive form of breast cancer.
"It is something that is difficult to experience and difficult to go through but mentally, I know that every side effect I feel is just a result of this life saving medication working," Shearer told E! News in June 2022. "I know that I might appear sick or feel sick on a lot of days, but it's not actually being sick. It's actually getting stronger and being healthier. Mentally I know that and I slug through the bad days."
And after detailing what she's experienced, Shearer—who shared she was officially cancer free that November—found comfort in realizing she wasn't alone.
"I need to listen to my body," she said. "So many people are now on that same journey and we're doing it together."
