The music community is mourning a tragic loss.

Ryan Whyte Maloney—who competed on season six of The Voice in 2014—has died, the Las Vegas' Clark County Coroner confirmed to People Jan. 28. He was 44.

The coroner said that Maloney died by suicide, per the outlet.

Less than 24 hours before his passing, the singer shared a video of him hanging out at a bar.

In the clip posted to his Instagram Story Jan. 27, Maloney—wearing a black shirt, a matching leather jacket and a necklace with a silver pendant—flexed a rock-on hand gesture while spinning around to provide a 360-view of the dimly lit establishment.

"Nine fine Irishmen for a private party tonight," Maloney said in the video, "and we will be rocking."

Earlier this month, the "Every Car You Chase" singer—who was a top five finalist on Blake Shelton's season six team on The Voice before being eliminated—reflected on his time on the reality competition series, sharing that his return for 2014 finale was a major highlight for him during a difficult time in his life.

"I was at home all depressed after The Voice," Maloney wrote on Instagram Jan. 17, alongside a video of him performing a cover of Morgan Wallen's "Summertime" with his fellow contestants. "I was trying to pick up the pieces of putting my life together and was getting used to waking up to 60,000 Facebook messages of people who said they knew me that was hilarious and I got a call from The Voice asking me to come back to do the finale and here it is best time of my life ever!"

In addition to appearing on The Voice, Maloney made a name for himself as the frontman of prog-rock band Indulge, recording the album Tomorrow's Another Day with the group in 2005 and subsequently touring with them for 10 years.

And the reality TV star also made waves as a solo artist. Since getting his start in the industry, he's released several singles—including 2024's "Hillbilly" and "Michigan Moonlight"—and released an album, Where I've Been

For Maloney, every career step he took prior to The Voice led him to his successful audition.

"To the audience, I was just another act in the show," he wrote on Instagram Jan. 16. "Yet to me, that moment was a battle for my future, a testament to my dedication to my craft. Persistence is key - never falter, never surrender!"
