Chelsea Handler is enjoying new love lately.
Two years after the comedian and Jo Koy announced their breakup following one year of dating, she revealed that she's currently in a relationship with a mystery man.
"I've been down that road before with having a public relationship—my last relationship," Chelsea told Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast Dec. 4 of her romance with her fellow comedian. "It's more out of respect for their privacy. I don't want him to have to be exposed to my world."
While she didn't identify her new boyfriend, she said that she met him "a long time ago" and they didn't "become lovers" until a few months ago after inviting him on a trip to Mallorca with her friends.
She shared some details about him, however, adding, "He's hot, he's awesome and so caring." The 49-year-old emphasized that he appreciates that her life is "pretty crazy" and that "he's around" when she wants him to be.
But Chelsea also noted that she had never wanted to get married and doesn't have plans to be in a long-term relationship.
"I go through periods where I have multiple lovers," she explained. "That's kind of what I wanted to do when I was a little girl. I wanted to grow up and be a woman that did have multiple lovers. I've never been interested in marriage. I'm not interested in long-term commitments—to work, to people, to anything. I am a free spirit, and I want to remain and soar like an eagle."
She quipped, "I want to soar like an eagle with my heart and legs wide open."
It’s also no surprise that the former Chelsea Lately host has remained tight-lipped about her new romance. After her split with Jo in July 2022, she admitted she was no longer interested in talking about it.
"I just don't wanna really comment on it any further because it turns into a headline," she told Alex on the podcast in January 2023. “I'm not promoting a breakup from six months ago. I'm here to talk about all the other things I'm doing. I understand people are interested but it's just like, it's run out of gas."
Her decision came after she had already publicly shared insight into the reason for their breakup.
"There were just some behaviors that we couldn't agree on, and it felt to me like I would have to abandon myself—which maybe I would have been OK to do if I were 20 or 25—but I wasn't willing to do that," Chelsea explained on Brooke Shields' Now What? podcast in December 2022. "No matter how much I loved this person, and I loved him so much, I was not going to abandon myself."
"I was like, 'I'm not going to change this, I'm not going to change the way that I behave in order to make you feel more comfortable. I'm not doing that,'" she continued. "I had to walk away from something that I really believed was gonna be a forever relationship, and so that was difficult."
