Apple Martin is drowning out the noise.
Nearly five months after the 20-year-old—daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow, 52, and Chris Martin, 48—faced criticism while participating in a prestigious ball in Paris, she revealed she no longer interacts with online hate comments.
“Even if you see a million positive things, there can be one thing that absolutely wrecks you,” Apple explained to Interview magazine in a conversation published April 2. “I’ve stopped now and I avoid it like the plague, because I know myself. I know that if I see stuff that isn’t true and that’s really upsetting to me, I’m going to be like, ‘Oh my god, I should never go out in public again.’”
The model was open about her experience with critics online, noting she first read negative rumors about herself after attending Chanel’s fashion show in 2023. And though she’s practicing this new vow, the model did subtly react to the “mean girl” allegations she endured last November with a lip sync video.
At the time, Apple appeared at the Le Bal des Débutantes in Paris—but it wasn’t her bow-adorned Valentino dress that captured everyone’s attention. A video of her and fellow débutante Aliénor Loppin de Montmort taking photos together went viral on TikTok, and several online users thought Apple’s “energy” was off-putting.
Amid the controversy, Aliénor complimented Apple as “the nicest girl ever” who “doesn’t deserve an ounce of” backlash. Meanwhile, Gwyneth—also mom to son Moses, 18, with the Coldplay frontman—told Vanity Fair in March that her kids are “lovely, unassuming, and down-to-earth.”
And when Apple isn’t listening to the rumors, she’s focusing on her main dream: to become a lawyer and an actor. In the Interview feature, the model—who’s in her junior year at Vanderbilt University in Nashville—revealed that she’s a “law, history, and society major.”
As for what drew her to the numerous studies?
“I love history. I love true crime. I love investigating,” Apple noted. “I also think it’s fun to look at the history of law and see how you can implement it in a modern context. If I were to be a lawyer, I would just want to help people. That’s probably the biggest thing.”
