Prince William and Kate Middleton are going back to where it all started.
To celebrate their 14th wedding anniversary April 29, the Prince and Princess of Wales—who are parents to Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 7—took a trip down memory lane. Or in this case, Scotland, where they first met and fell in love while studying at the University of St. Andrews.
The couple arrived in Tobermory—a small town on the Isle of Mull—both dressed in blue button-down shirts and fashionable blazers. And during their trip, the pair plans to spend time visiting community hubs, per videos posted to their joint account on X, as well as learning about sustainable farming practices and “celebrating the power of community and connection.”
After all, the country holds a great deal of significance for both William and Kate.
“Scotland is incredibly important to me and will always have a special place in my heart,” William said during the Opening Ceremony of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 2021. “I’ve been coming to Scotland since I was a small boy. As I grew up, I saw how my grandmother relishes every minute she spends here. And my father is never happier than when walking among the hills.”
“It was here in Scotland, twenty years ago this year, that I first met Catherine,” he continued. “Needless to say, the town where you meet your future wife holds a very special place in your heart.”
Indeed, the couple’s meaningful trip back to Scotland comes as a rare joint outing as the pair decided to spend Easter weekend at their country home in Norfolk with their kids while several other members of the royal family proceeded with the annual Easter Matlins service at St George Chapel in Windsor.
Kate has been slowly returning to her public duties over the last several months after undergoing chemotherapy last year.
"It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery," Kate, who shared she had been diagnosed with cancer in March 2024, wrote on X in January. "As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal."
"I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead," she continued. "There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support."
But through it all, William made sure to gush about his wife at every opportunity, sharing a rare PDA photo of the two of them on Valentine’s Day as well as the sweetest tribute for Kate’s birthday the month before.
“To the most incredible wife and mother,” the 42-year-old wrote alongside a photo of his wife shared to the couple’s official social media platforms earlier this year. “The strength you’ve shown over the last year has been remarkable. George, Charlotte, Louis and I are so proud of you. Happy Birthday, Catherine. We love you. W.”
