Watch: Jonathan Bailey Reveals His Future on Bridgerton

Jonathan Bailey isn't relinquishing his viscount title anytime soon.

Indeed, as Netflix confirmed Bridgerton would be back for seasons five and six ahead of the fourth installment's 2026 premiere, the actor behind fan-favorite Anthony Bridgerton shared that he plans to stay on the series as long as he's needed.

"I've never been someone who's like, 'Thanks, bye,'" Jonathan explained to The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published June 18. "It's not in my nature."

Luckily, with the eldest Bridgerton getting married to Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) in season two, the 37-year-old now plays a supporting character since the main plot centers on a different sibling's love story each season.

"I know how much I love long-running series," he noted. "I know how important familiarity of character and story and consistency is in these long-running series."

With younger brothers Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) marrying Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) in season three, and Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) searching for love in the upcoming installment, they've developed a deep bond through filming.

Jonathan said of his role, "There's a real sense of brotherly pride I feel in it."

However, the potential for conflicting filming schedules or storylines without Anthony isn't lost on the Wicked star. Nonetheless, he will always have love for the series. He said of the show's legacy, "I look forward to, in another however many years, when we've done the eighth season to sit around and be like, 'Look what we all did together.'"

While he's grateful for the love he's received from fans, he admitted that his overnight fame wasn't really the object of his desires. Jonathan noted, "I just feel that maybe Bridgerton was just a smidge quicker than I was prepared for."

Getting back on the stage to star in West End revival of Cock after filming was a necessary respite. "Going back to theater," he shared, "working with people that I know, that has helped."

As for what he can expect for Benedict's upcoming season? Well, Jonathan did admit to filming a wedding scene, before quickly adding, "People know that people get married in Bridgerton—that's not a spoiler, right?"

Luckily for Jonathan, it is not. For the second Bridgerton brother, his love story takes center stage after meeting Sophie Baek (Yerin Hall) at the infamous masquerade ball.

Despite Sophie’s storyline being “based in a Cinderalla trope,” according to showrunner Jess Brownell, she revealed that “she is no damsel in distress.”

"She is someone who has chess moves and is always thinking two, three steps ahead,” she teased to Entertainment Weekly in February. “She’s absolutely going to throw Benedict for a loop."

While we await the premiere of Bridgerton season four, keep reading to unmask the first look of the upcoming installment.
