Things are stranger than they’ve ever been.
Indeed, the Stranger Things season five teaser trailer proves that it’s the same even in the Upside Down. The Netflix series will drop its final season in November and, based on what the latest teaser entails, it will be the biggest yet.
The trailer, released July 16, opens with Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) as he’s on a seemingly secret mission with his crew, which fans will know usually includes Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and Will (Noah Schnapp), and also Will’s mom Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour). Meanwhile, Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) also appear to be on their own sidequest.
Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), for his part, is still devastated over girlfriend Max’s (Sadie Sink) season four fate. In one clip, he is seen crying and holding her hand as she remains in the coma Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) put her in to save her life.
As for action, trust there won’t be any shortage. Several clips in the series show the gang fighting off—or being chased by and hiding from—demogorgons. The teaser ends with a simple, yet eerie message from a demogorgon-like creature, likely Vecna: “Found you.”
Sadly, Stranger Things fans will have to wait until November 26 for the first batch of episodes to drop in Volume I. Later, Volume II, which includes three episodes, will drop on Christmas Day, and the finale will hit Netflix on New Year’s Eve.
Although it’s a long way off until its premiere, the Stranger Things cast has promised that this season will be like no other.
“It's beyond anything we've done yet,” Noah teased to E! News in June. “It's so big and so intimate and so heartfelt and probably the most emotional work we've done."
As he put it, “Prepare for tears."
Caleb, who has also played Lucas on the series since its premiere in 2016, admitted it was difficult to say goodbye to the project, and its creators Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer.
"I grew up on the show, I traveled the world with these guys," Caleb, now 23, added to E! “We all started in this one place in our lives. This is the end of a chapter, but it's a beautiful chapter.”
