Watch: ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ Canceled After 10 Years

Stephen Colbert is lining up his next career move (jokes included).

Two weeks after CBS announced they canceled The Late Show after 33 years on TV, the series' current host shared insight into what his next business venture might be.

During The Late Show With Stephen Colbert's July 28 episode, Colbert asked for some pointers from guests Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, hosts of the incredibly popular podcast Las Culturistas.

"I'm going to need a gig soon," the 61-year-old quipped, "so sell me on podcasting. Is it fun?"

Colbert's flirtation with entering the podcast space was warmly received by the Fire Island costars, who joked that the comedian could push them off of TIME magazine's list of the 100 best podcasts of all time.

As Rogers replied, "You have to know we were probably 100 on that list. So, you start one, we're getting bumped. Like almost certainly."

Jokes aside, Rogers shared his best piece of advice for Colbert if he does, indeed, start his own podcast: "Just be yourself."

Yang even pitched an idea for the hypothetical audio series, involving Colbert’s wife Evelyn McGee-Colbert.

"I think you and your wife Evie should just go on dates," the Saturday Night Live star shared, "and just either turn the microphones on during the date, or just recap us."

But when Colbert asked "dates with each other?" Rogers jokingly clarified, "That's up to you."

Ultimately, Yang said the idea of a couple's podcast "sounds really sweet" for Colbert, who has hosted the talk show since 2015.

Colbert even asked the pair, "Will you produce it?" to which they both happily agreed.

Later in the episode, Yang and Rogers—who are hosting their fourth annual Las Culturistas Culture Awards next month—even presented Colbert with a fake award for Best Future Podcaster, which the funnyman happily accepted.

CBS announced on July 17 that Colbert's final show will be May 2026. As for why the network has decided to end the show?

“This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night,” CBS executives George CheeksAmy Reisenbach and David Stapf shared in a joint press release. “It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.”

“Our admiration, affection, and respect for the talents of Stephen Colbert and his incredible team made this agonizing decision even more difficult,” the trio continued. “With much gratitude, we look forward to honoring Stephen and celebrating the show over the next 10 months alongside its millions of fans and viewers.”

The Las Culturistas Culture Awards are Aug. 5 at 9 p.m. on Bravo. In the meantime, keep reading to see if more of your favorite TV shows are renewed are canceled.
