Watch: Why Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott Have No Plans to Get Married 2 Years After Engagement

Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott are proving they can build a life together without rushing to tie the knot.

In fact, the couple—who began dating in 2019 and got engaged in August 2023 while on a vacation in Scotland—haven’t even started planning their wedding despite the Property Brothers star popping the question to the New Girl alum two years ago.

“We've just been having so much fun traveling with the kids and filming this show and stuff,” Jonathan told People in an interview published August 7. “So no, we have not actually made any plans yet."

However, the 47-year-old does have a general vision for his nuptials to Zooey, who shares daughter Elsie, 10, and son Charlie, 8, with ex-husband Jacob Pechenik.

“Whatever we do, it has to be meaningful to us and we want to gather our friends and family and have a good time,” shared Jonathan, who was previously married to Kelsy Ully from 2007 to 2013. "We want to keep it very, very intimate.”

Besides, he doesn’t feel any pressure to walk down the aisle.

"The good thing is when you find somebody, at this stage in our lives, we don't have the energy or time for the BS anymore," Jonathan told E! News in December 2023. "And so, we're not taking any pressure from anybody. Nobody's gonna tell us what our guest list is gonna look like. We're just gonna do things the way we want to do things because it's about each other."

It’s a sentiment also shared by Zooey, 45.

"We don't know when we're getting married yet," the (500) Days of Summer actress told E! News in a separate December 2023 interview. "We're just enjoying being engaged right now."
