Bobby Berk wasn’t eyeing to throw shade.
The interior designer announced his new HGTV series Junk or Jackpot? on July 10, just one day after news that Queer Eye—on which he starred with Karamo Brown, Antoni Porowski, Jonathan Van Ness (JVN) and Tan France before being replaced by Jeremiah Brent in 2024—was canceled after 10 seasons.
While the timing of his announcement raised eyebrows, Bobby said it was anything but a dig on his old show.
“I swear on my mother’s life, my show announcement date was set,” Bobby told People in an interview published Aug. 22. “This was planned. Show announcements don’t happen on a whim.”
The 43-year-old added that even one of his former costars reached out to get some clarification, saying, “Karamo was like, ‘Girl, the day after?’ I’m like, ‘No, no, no. I promise you it was already planned.”
Besides, according to Bobby, he had no idea Queer Eye was on the chopping block. As he put it, Netflix “could have easily given me a heads-up on when that was going to be announced.”
“I was on the show for [eight] seasons,” he added, “but yeah, it’s fine.”
E! News has reached out to Netflix for comment.
Bobby—who has been married to husband Dewey Do since 2012—announced in 2023 that he would be leaving the Emmy-winning series, and as he noted at the time, it was a difficult choice to make.
"It's not been an easy decision to be at peace with, but a necessary one," he wrote on Instagram. "Although my journey with Queer Eye is over, my journey with you is not. You will be seeing more of me very soon."
He also thanked his fans, adding, "The love that I have received from you all over the last 6 years has been absolutely surreal. You have tuned in and been dedicated fans and together we were able to share the healing powers of design. I learned from you all about kindness, love and acceptance and that has changed my life for the better."
As for his former Queer Eye costars? The current Fab Five have been feeling nostalgic as their show comes to an end.
"Today is our last day ever shooting Queer Eye, after almost 9 years,” Tan shared on Instagram Aug. 8. “I don’t quite have the words yet, and I don’t know if I will for some time, but today I am filled with gratitude, that I get to see out this life changing experience with this incredible cast and crew!"
Jeremiah also reflected on his time with the show, writing on Instagram Aug. 14, “Queer Eye has given me the opportunity to align my passion with a deep and profound sense of purpose.”
“It has been more than a job—it’s been a calling,” he shared. “To help others see their own worth, to nurture their dreams, and to witness transformation in its purest form has been the greatest gift of all.”
