Watch: Dodgers Boss Speaks Out on Alex Vesia's World Series Leave Due to Family Emergency

The Los Angeles Dodgers are giving Alex Vesia his space.

The day after the MLB team announced that the pitcher was “away from the team” to “navigate a deeply personal family matter” with his pregnant wife Kayla Vesia, the organization explained their decision to ultimately leave him off their 2025 World Series roster, meaning he likely won’t have the chance to participate in the championship series.

“We just didn’t want to have any potential for any kind of pressure,” Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman told reporters Oct. 24. “This is so much bigger than baseball. For us, it was doing whatever small part we could to just 100 percent be supportive.”

While neither the team nor Alex and Kayla—who announced in April that they were expecting their first child—have provided details on the reason for his absence, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts shared the team’s sympathy for the pitcher.

“It’s certainly on our hearts, and we miss him,” he told reporters during a separate press conference. “We’ll be thinking about him and certainly he’s a part of this.”

Noting the team’s mindset heading into the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, Dave added, “It’s just even more motivation.”

Though he said Alex’s presence on the field “is certainly going to be missed,” the manager expressed confidence in the rest of his pitching roster, which includes Shohei Ohtani, Clayton Kershaw, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Max Scherzer

"We have a lot of viable options," Roberts continued. "I don't know what situation will present itself. But I trust all the guys, I really do, and guys are going to have to step up."

Heading into the third game of the 2025 World Series Oct. 27, the series is tied 1-1. The week before Game 1, Alex celebrated the Dodgers’ win over the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series, which secured their spot in the World Series.

Alongside a picture of him holding Kayla’s baby bump on the field, and one of himself enjoying a champagne shower with his team in the locker room with, Alex wrote on Instagram Oct. 18, “Up Next… World Series.”
