Nick Jonas is a sucker for family time.
Indeed, it’s why having his wife Priyanka Chopra Jonas and their 3-year-old daughter Malti Marie star alongside him and brothers Joe Jonas and Kevin Jonas in A Very Jonas Christmas Movie added some extra cheer to the set.
“We’re playing ourselves,” Nick told E! News at the movie’s premiere in NYC on Nov. 10. “So, casting other people to be our family would not have been believable or worked. And it was just great to have them there and set the whole tone for the whole project.”
“This film for us is obviously exaggerated and heighted versions of ourselves,” he added. “But there’s a lot of truth in there.”
A Very Jonas Christmas Movie sees Nick, Joe and Kevin in a race against time as they try to make it back home from their final tour stop in London to be with their families on the East Coast for the holidays—despite a few travel mishaps and brotherly spats along the way.
But not only did Nick hvave the support of his girls on the journey: Kevin’s wife Danielle Jonas and their daughters Alena, 11, and Valentina, 9, also made their feature film debut in the Christmas movie. (Joe’s daughters Willa, 5, and Delphine, 3—whom he shares with ex-wife Sophie Turner—do not appear in the film).
“It was great” Kevin told E! News about filming with his family. “The first scene that we filmed of the movie was with everyone together as a family. Really got the film going strong right off the bat.”
For Nick, making sure that the bond as brothers and fathers translated onscreen was pivotal to making the film an experience for Jonas fans and more to enjoy.
“Isaac [Aptaker] and Elizabeth [Berger] who wrote the script and produced the movie alongside us,” Nick said. “They spent a lot of time trying to understand us better. And put something on the screen that feels universal. And that families can connect with that doesn’t have to be us for it to make sense and to feel like they can connect. And that’s most important to us.”
A Very Jonas Christmas Movie premieres on Disney+ and Hulu Nov. 14.
