Kris Jenner is committed to taking the high road.
The Kardashians star offered insight into her relationships with her kids’ ex-partners including Kanye West, Scott Disick and Tristan Thompson, explaining why she chooses to embrace them even after they’ve parted ways with her daughters Kim Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian and Khloe Kardashian.
“These are—in most cases—the fathers of my grandchildren, and I love these men,” she told Jay Shetty during the Nov. 17 episode of the On Purpose podcast. “That love doesn't go away when we experience really challenging times with them. It doesn't turn off like that for me.”
Indeed, the 70-year-old has witnessed many difficult splits in her family—ranging from lengthy court proceedings to shocking cheating scandals—but she chooses not to dwell on the past.
“We don't need to talk about these things anymore. It's been done. It's dealt with,” she continued. “I don't like what they've done. No, I don't. But it doesn't make the love get any less overnight.”
And part of Kris’ philosophy stems from her desire to set a good example for her 13 grandchildren.
“What would my grandkids think 20 years from now if their grandmother treated their dad poorly?” she wondered. “I teach my kids forgiveness. It's one of the biggest lessons that I can teach them: to forgive somebody who's treated you badly and move on. You may not completely forget, but you need to forgive.”
Kris’ warmth towards her grandkids’ dads stems from firsthand experience navigating her own blended family. After divorcing Robert Kardashian in 1991, she married her now-ex Caitlyn Jenner later that year, though she remained friendly with the defense attorney.
“It took a couple years, but it was what I had learned from people that were in my life in previous years,” she explained. “[Robert] walked through that back door whenever he wanted knowing there would be dinner on the table at 6:00 and he was always welcome. And it's the same way I now treat all of my kids’ exes.”
