Kelly Clarkson has been waiting for a moment like this.
The singer shared a classic New York City holiday tradition with her kids River Rose, 11, and Remington, 9, bringing them to skate outside the Rockefeller Center, where she films The Kelly Clarkson Show.
In a family photo posted on Instagram Nov. 30, Kelly wore a white pom-pom beanie and fur-lined black coat as she hit the ice. River—bundled up on a purple coat and a hot pink beanie—beamed happily while her brother Remington, who sported a blue coat with a yellow hat and a lightning bolt-print shirt, waved at the camera.
Kelly captioned the sweet photo, "Ice skating at 30 Rock with the family."
But for the 43-year-old, who shares both kids with her late ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, parenthood can sometimes leave her catching her breath.
“I look at my daughter constantly,” Kelly told Mariska Hargitay in an October episode of the Kelly Clarkson Show, “and I'm just like, ‘Look, I'm trying my best."
She added, "I know you're gonna end up in therapy one day. I don't know what for, but I'm trying my best to limit it."
Still, every moment makes her stronger. In fact, the American Idol alum said her own motherhood journey has given her more insight into for her own parents’ lives.
“It is interesting,” Kelly noted. “You understand them in a different light.”
She added, "You have a little but more empathy than you might have had in your 20s.”
And from her own experiences, she's learned what she wants to prioritize when it comes to her kids.
"I literally ask my kids every night when we're snuggling, 'Are you happy? And if you're not, what could make you happier?'” Kelly explained during a March 2024 episode of The Angie Martinez IRL Podcast. "They’re really honest about it. I'm raising that kind of individual. I want you to be honest with me."
