Jeremy O. Harris is facing a new legal battle.
The Emily in Paris actor—who plays Grégory Elliot Duprée on the Netflix series—was arrested at an airport in Japan last month on suspicion of attempting to smuggle illegal drugs into the country, local authorities confirmed to Reuters Dec. 4.
Harris has been in custody since Nov. 16, when he flew into the Japanese island Okinawa and customs officers found ecstasy in his bag, Tomigusuku police, who oversee the airport, told The New York Times.
Officials said 780 milligrams of Ecstasy, a hallucinogenic drug also known as MDMA, was found in his carry-on bag, per the outlet.
While Harris was arrested at the time for violating the Customs Act, which prohibits travelers from bringing narcotics into the country, it is unclear whether any formal charges have been made or if the playwright admitted to any of the allegations, according to The New York Times.
E! News reached out to a rep for Harris and the Tomigusuku police but has not heard back.
Harris first catapulted into the spotlight in 2018, when he wrote and produced the off-Broadway production Slave Play. The three-act play became such a hit, it opened on Broadway in 2019 and earned him 12 Tony Award nominations the following year.
Since then, Harris has co-written films like 2020's Zola and 2025's Erupcja starring Charli XCX. Plus, in addition to his recurring role on Emily in Paris, he's acted on shows like the rebooted Gossip Girl and in films such as The Sweet East.
But despite all his newfound success, Harris recently admitted that he's still finding his footing in Hollywood.
"I am someone who, in this moment of figuring out how to navigate this world, all I have going for me is that everyone recognizes that I have good taste, right?" he told Vanity Fair in June. "It's all like this weird club and once you're in, you're in."
