Ifill was also the best-selling author of The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama, published in 2009.

Robert Vaughn
Best known for his role as Napoleon Solo on the '60s TV Series The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Vaughn, 83, died Nov. 11. The actor, who had acute leukemia, is survived by his wife and two children. Other TV credits include The A-Team, Murder She Wrote, Law & Order and Coronation Street. Vaughn also won an Emmy in 1978 for the miniseries Washington: Behind Closed Doors.

Janet Reno
Reno, the first woman to serve as U.S. Attorney General, passed away Nov. 7 at age 78. She died at her home in Miami-Dade County, Fla., from complications of Parkinson's disease. Reno, who served under President Bill Clinton, will best be remembered for her role in the 51-day Waco, Texas, siege standoff, as well as the armed seizure of 6-year-old Elián González in Miami.
Don Marshall
The beloved actor, who appeared in Star Trek, Julia and Land of the Giants, passed away at age 80.
Howard Davies
Following a short battle with cancer, the British theater director died Oct. 25 at age 71. Davis, who worked with everyone from Kevin Spacey to Kathleen Turner, was nominated for three Tony Awards. He was also named Best Director at the Laurence Olivier Awards three times (for his work on The Iceman Cometh, All My Sons and The White Guard). Davis is survived by his wife, actress Clare Holman.
Bobby Vee
One of the first teen idols from the 1960s, Bobby died Oct. 24 at age 73 following a battle with Alzheimer's disease. An original member of The Shadows, he first found success with the song "Suzie Baby." Bobby's other popular songs included "Rubber Ball," "Take Good Care of My Baby," "Run to Him," "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes" and "Come Back When You Grow Up." Bobby—whose wife of over 50 years, Karen Velline, died in 2015—is survived by his four kids.
Pete Burns
The Dead or Alive singer died Oct. 23 at age 57 after suffering a cardiac arrest. "All of his family and friends are devastated by the loss of our special star," Burns' management said in a statement. Burns' band found mainstream success in 1985 with the single "You Spin Me Round." In addition to launching a solo career, Burns also appeared on the U.K.'s Celebrity Big Brother in 2006.

The English actor and creator of popular BBC sitcom Dad's Army died at the age of 93.
Steve Dillon
The British comic book artist and co-creator of the fan-favorite Preacher series died in New York City on Oct. 22 at the age of 54. No cause was immediately given.
Cecilia Hart
The actress of stage and screen, including the TV series Paris, on which she met husband James Earl Jones, died Oct. 16 of ovarian cancer. She was 68.

The veteran stand up comedian and actor passed away Oct. 21 at 60-years-old.

Princess Diana's stepmother, 87, passed away Oct. 21 after a short illness. "Raine, Countess Spencer, died peacefully at her home in London," her family said.
Richard Nicoll
The 39-year-old fashion designer, who was born in London and raised in Australia, died of a heart attack on Oct. 21. In addition to his own fashion label, Nicoll created collections for Louis Vuitton, Cerruti Paris and Topshop. Celebrities including Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Diane Kruger were fans of his looks.
