Rock Beginnings

David Bowie was born David Robert Jones in England on January 8, 1947. He formed his first band at the young age of 15 after learning to play the plastic saxophone.

Name Change

After releasing music unsuccessfully in the early '60s under his birth name, he adopted the name David Bowie in the mid-1960s after 19th-century American frontiersman Jim Bowie.
