Zero Nominations for Malcolm & Marie

Many fans were hoping to see Zendaya and John David Washington get acting nominations for their work in the Sam Levinson movie Malcolm & Marie. However, the film, which debuts Feb. 5, didn't receive any nods.

Bridgerton Not Included This Season

It looks like Bridgerton will have to wait another season for a Golden Globe. Despite being Netflix's biggest series ever, the Shonda Rimes show didn't receive a single nomination. We wonder what Lady Whistledown has to say.

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom Left Out of Best Motion Picture (Drama)

Considering Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Boseman were nominated in the Best Actress and Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama) categories for their performances in the movie, many were shocked to see the film didn't make the Best Motion Picture (Drama) list. In fact, many outlets, including Vanity Fair and Variety, had predicted that the picture would be a shoo-in.

The Los Angeles Times and The New York Times pointed out that several others films with Black-led ensembles—including Da 5 Bloods, One Night in Miami... and Judas and the Black Messiah—didn't receive recognition in the Best Motion Picture (Drama) category, either.

Emily in Paris Gets 2 Nods

C'est magnifique! Fans were pleasantly surprised to see the binge-worthy Netflix series on the list. Not only did the show earn a nomination in the Best Television Series (Musical or Comedy) category, but its star Lily Collins secured a Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series (Musical or Comedy) nod for her role as Emily Cooper. It looks like this show has a certain je ne sais quoi that the HFPA couldn't resist.

Kate Hudson & Music Secure Nominations

While Kate Hudson has been winning over fans for years with her acting in Almost Famous and a number of romantic comedies, not everyone expected to see her name pop up on the Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) list for her role in Music. The Sia-directed movie, which has made headlines over its casting controversy, also earned a nomination in the Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) category.

Ratched Racks Up 3 Nods

Sarah Paulson is no stranger to Golden Globe nominations. Up until today, she'd earned three nominations for her work in Game Change, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, taking home a trophy for the latter. So, fans weren't too surprised when she received another nod in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series (Drama) category for her portrayal of nurse Mildred Ratched. Still, given its less than stellar reviews, some weren't expecting the program to earn a total of three nods. Cynthia Nixon is also in the running for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Supporting Role, and the show is up for Best Television Series (Drama).

Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods Left Off List

Spike Lee's kids, Satchel Lee and Jackson Lee, are the 2021 Golden Globe Ambassadors. So, they were likely disappointed when their director dad's film Da 5 Bloods didn't receive any nominations. The Hollywood Critics Association named the movie its Best Picture at its third annual Midseason Awards and presented Delroy Lindo with the Best Actor honor. In addition, Lee won its Best Director Award and its Best Original Screenplay accolade along with Danny Bilson, Paul De Meo and Kevin Willmott. The movie also featured Clark Peters, Norm Lewis, Isiah Whitlock Jr. and the late Chadwick Boseman.

No Love for Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep already has 32 Golden Globe nominations under her belt. But many expected the 71-year-old actress to be in the running for a few more awards this year. First, there was her performance in The Prom. James Corden received a nomination in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) category for his role in the movie, and the film is up for Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy). Then, there was her acting in Let Them All Talk. But it looks like she won't be adding a ninth statue to her trophy shelf this year.

Or Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks was in both Greyhound and News of the World but neither film made the cut. Still, the 64-year-old actor has been nominated 16 times over the course of his career and has won eight Golden Globes, including last year's Cecil B. deMille Award.

I May Destroy You Shut Out

The Michaela Coel series had already received recognition from the Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards and the Film Independent Spirit Awards. So, many viewers were keeping their fingers crossed that the BBC One and HBO hit would get a Golden Globes nomination. However, the HFPA didn't give it any nods.

Jared Leto Earns a Little Love for The Little Things

In fact, Jared Leto was the only one from the star-studded film, which also featured Denzel Washington and Rami Malek, to receive any recognition.

Leslie Odom Jr. Doesn't Get a Shot at Hamilton Acting Nod

It looks like the HFPA isn't going to give Leslie Odom Jr. a shot at an acting accolade for Hamilton. The 39-year-old star played Aaron Burr in the musical, and some outlets, including Vanity Fair, expected to see his name in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) category. However, he didn't secure the nod. Hamilton did, however, receive a nomination for Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who portrayed Alexander Hamilton, earned a Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) category.

Although, Odom did receive two nominations—one for Best Original Song and one for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture—for his work in One Night in Miami...

Mank Is a Top Contender

Critics expected Mank to do well. They just didn't know how well. While many movie buffs predicted that Amanda Seyfried would get a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role as Marion Davies, several didn't expect the picture to be the leader of the film categories, earning six nominations overall. The top contender also features Gary Oldman, Lily Collins, Arliss Howard, Tom Pelphrey, Sam Troughton, Ferdinand Kingsley, Tuppence Middleton, Tom Burke and Charles Dance.

Promising Young Woman Receives 4 Nominations

Same With Promising Young Woman. While many expected Carey Mulligan to secure a Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) nomination, several critics hadn't predicted that the movie would receive four nominations and be tied for third place for most nominated film of the night.
