Anitta's 2023 Grammys night is simply the best.
The singer-songwriter, who is up for the coveted Best New Artist award at the Feb. 5 ceremony, reflected on what it's like to be nominated for a Grammy. Her answer? It's a win for both herself and for her native Brazil.
"It's crazy. It's been 50 years since an artist [from] Brazil was here nominated," Anitta exclusively told E! News' Laverne Cox on Live From the Red Carpet. "For me, for the whole country it's like we're making history right now."
Other artists up against her for the honor include Latto, Omar Apollo, Maneskin, DOMi and JD Beck, Tobe Nwigwe, Muni Long, Samara Joy, Molly Tuttle and Wet Leg.
But, as Anita made clear, she doesn't have to take home the trophy to feel proud. "Today I feel like a winner ‘cause for me, winning or not, it's already the biggest victory to be here part of this major thing," she said. "So, I'm feeling like a winner no matter what."
That's not to say Anitta isn't a fierce competitor in the running for Best New Artist. In 2022, her hit "Envolver" spent six weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. On the awards front, she became the first Brazilian artist in history to win at the MTV Video Music Awards, where she took home the prize for the Best Latin category.
Reflecting on her success in the U.S., the 29-year-old told Laverne, it was "a new start from zero."
"It's a new audience so starting again, it's also an ego exercise cause you go to your country and you're like the biggest one and then you come here, you're starting from zero," she explained. "You got to really push yourself as a beginner and I do and I have no problems with that. I'm really happy to be here."
