As Alec Baldwin faces a difficult chapter in court, his family is behind him, literally.
The actor—who's on trial for involuntary manslaughter related to 2021's fatal on-set shooting of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins—was supported by brother Stephen Baldwin and wife Hilaria Baldwin, who sat behind him in New Mexico's Santa Fe County District Court July 10. While the 30 Rock alum has maintained his innocence in the case—telling ABC News in 2021, "The trigger wasn't pulled. I didn't pull the trigger"—a New Mexico Grand Jury indicted him on an involuntary manslaughter charge in January.
According to NBC News, the 66-year-old—who pleaded not guilty to the charge in February—could be facing 18 months in prison if he's convicted in the case.
During opening arguments July 10, prosecutors challenged Alec's claim that he didn't pull the trigger.
"You'll see the video footage of the multiple occasions during which the defendant used this firearm on the set, and each time he fired it, it was working just fine," Special Prosecutor Erlinda Ocampo Johnson said, per NBC News. "And in fact, you'll hear evidence that the defendant himself admitted in December of 2021 that this gun didn't have any mechanical problems."
However, Alec's legal team came to his defense, telling the jury he committed "no crime."
"He was an actor, acting, playing the role of Harlan Rust," attorney Alex Spiro said, according to NBC News. "An actor, playing a character, can act in ways that are lethal that just aren't lethal on a movie set."
"These cardinal rules," he continued, "they're not cardinal rules on a movie set."

Alexander Rae Baldwin III—the Emmy-winning actor known as Alec Baldwin—was born April 3, 1958, to Alexander Rae Baldwin Jr. and Carol Newcomb. He's the second of six siblings and the oldest brother.

Mama Baldwin
Their father died at the age of 55 in 1983 but Carol—who survived a 1991 breast cancer diagnosis—lived until she was 92. She passed away May 26, 2022, with 25 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and an eponymous cancer research foundation to her name.
“My mother taught me about second acts. And third ones, too," Alec wrote in tribute when she died. "She spent the last 25 years of her life as a fighter and a champion for the cause to which she devoted so much energy."

Billy revealed on Oct. 3, 2019, that Vance had been diagnosed with cancer exactly one year beforehand and had since undergone 28 rounds of chemo.

Also on the anniversary of his diagnosis, Vance posted to his own account, per USA Today, that he had "been clear" for months.
