Joey Burford is in the hospital following a devastating accident.

The MILF Manor alum—who starred on the TLC dating show’s first season—was recently involved in a “serious scooter accident” that left him with bleeding on his brain and multiple facial injuries, his mom Kelle Mortensen shared in a heartfelt plea for donations to assist with medical expenses.

“I’m reaching out to you today with a heavy heart,” she wrote on a GoFundMe page. “This tragic event has resulted in significant complications that will require him to undergo multiple facial reconstruction surgeries.”

Facial reconstruction typically involves the use of a person’s skin, bone or muscle from other parts of their body to rebuild their facial features, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine.

The mother of six—who appeared alongside her son on the series and returned for its second season in a surprise twist—said Joey already underwent a three-hour surgery on Oct. 19 and “is facing a long and challenging road to recovery,” which includes being placed on a liquid diet for six weeks as well as physical and occupational therapy.

“Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a tremendous difference in his recovery process and alleviate some of the financial burdens we are facing,” the reality star continued. “Your kindness and generosity are truly appreciated, and we are grateful for your support.”

After posting photos of Joey’s injuries and declaring the 23-year-old was “lucky to be alive,” Kelle, 53, revealed that his condition was slowly but surely improving.

“As of this morning at 9 a.m., he successfully had his breathing tube taken out,” she wrote on the donation page Oct. 21. “Although he has faced some challenges, including the need for extensive dental work and additional facial surgeries, we are relieved to report that the bleeding on his brain has stopped and has not worsened.”

Amid his numerous procedures, Joey also thanked his supporters directly for their generosity.

“Thank you to everyone that’s writing and donating to me,” he said from his hospital bed in a video posted on Kelle’s Instagram Story Oct. 21, sporting a bandage on his forehead and bearing multiple bruises throughout his face. “I appreciate you guys more than you even know. Thank you. I love you.”
