Selena Gomez is so sick of people getting that same old love.

That's why the Only Murders in the Building star has made it her mission to provide those experiencing mental health struggles with better help through her Rare Impact Fund foundation—though she admitted she's still in the beginning stages of accomplishing that goal.

"My dream is to have places where people who are thinking bad thoughts—I want them to go to a place and have the resources," Selena exclusively told E! News on the red carpet at her Rare Impact Fund Benefit on Oct. 24. "So, I have big goals, big dreams and I'm just starting, and it feels like a good start."

And the "Good For You" singer knows firsthand that it's possible to overcome those challenges with a strong support system. After all, Selena—who has been open about being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and Lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease that causes the body's immune system to attack healthy cells—has spent a lot of time working to improve her own mental and physical health.

"Sometimes," she shared, "you just need someone to tell you, 'I feel you' or 'Me too.'" (For more from Selena, tune into E! News on Oct. 28 at 11 p.m.)

As the 32-year-old explained, receiving that validation can help people "actually connect and hopefully create something beautiful out of that."

But the importance of having support isn't the only lesson Selena has learned from her wellness journey. The Rare Beauty founder also shared a crucial reminder for anyone going through a challenging period.

"I've learned so much about the complexities of being a woman from my mental health to physically being OK, and also just wanting to make sure that all around I feel healthy," Selena said. "And I just want people to know that everything isn't a highlight reel. Life is very complex and different."
