Jeff Dye didn't expect his last encounter with Kristin Cavallari to end up on her podcast.

The comedian—who was linked to The Hills alum for several months in 2021—recounted the day in October 2023 that he was arrested for a DUI, and the role he said Kristin ultimately played in his court case.

"I hadn't seen my ex for like, two years," he recalled on The Adam Carolla Show Nov. 20, "and she was like, 'I'm in LA. Let's get coffee.'"

According to Jeff, he had been out late the night before and ended up sleeping through his alarm.

"She's FaceTiming me, like, 'Where are you? I'm at the coffee shop,'" he continued. "I jump in my car, I drive as fast as I can, but I might feel fine."

However, things quickly took a turn when the 41-year-old said he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree. Though he said it was "a big crash," he brushed it off and decided he would just run the few miles to meet Kristin, 37, for the coffee date.

"I get there, my adrenaline's pumping. I had only seen her and the baristas that I know for about three minutes before cops come into their coffee shop," Jeff said. "And they're like, 'Hey, did you drive here?' And I'm like, 'Huh? What's going on?' I just played dumb."

They ended up arresting Jeff and charging him with a DUI, which Kristin later recounted on the Oct. 24, 2023 episode of her podcast, Let's Be Honest, which Jeff noted was used against him in court.

"The state said, according to Kristin Cavallari's podcast, you smelled of alcohol," Jeff explained, adding that while she might not have thought much about discussing the topic, for him, "It broke my life open."

And Jeff said the media scrutiny that followed took its toll on him.

"I think they think, ‘Well, who cares? Who's Jeff Dye? I actually like Kristin Cavallari. She's hot and she has a great podcast. She's cool and she's in the media eye. And she's in TMZ. Who cares about this loser comedian who's an alcoholic?'" he said. "I've heard it all. I've read it all. But what we're forgetting is that I'm a person. I didn't deserve that at all."

Jeff also got candid about his short relationship with Kristin—who shares kids Camden, 12, Jaxon, 10, and Saylor, 8, with ex-husband Jay Cutler—saying that he hoped meeting up with Kristin would make her "fall in love with me again."

"We didn't even really date," he said. "I'm gonna say that publicly. She made me think that I might have a chance with her. She treated me like a little puppy."

Shortly after their 2021 split, a source had told E! News that two had been seeing each other very casually.

"It was never that serious to begin with," the insider shared at the time. "She was having fun."
