Cher is turning back time to reflect on a painful chapter in her marriage to late ex Sonny Bono.
The "Believe" singer alleged that Sonny cheated on her around 1967, when she had suffered her third miscarriage and he was writing what would eventually become the movie Chastity.
According to Cher, her then-husband—with whom she performed as the musical duo Sonny & Cher—"a 'secretary' to take dictation” for the film, and she happened to be a woman who was "young and blond."
"That old chestnut," she wrote, per People, before explaining how she was awoken by the sound of "rustling and whispering" at her home one night.
"At that point I knew something was wrong, but kept walking back toward our bedroom, when I saw the shadowy figures of Sonny helping his new assistant out the front door," she recounted. "It was such a f--king cliché. It broke my heart, but you've got to give him an A for effort."
Cher finalized her divorce from Sonny in 1975, six years after the couple welcomed their son Chaz Bono. She went on to marry The Allman Brothers Band guitarist Gregg Allman that same year, but the two—who share son Elijah Blue Allman—divorced in 1979.
In her memoir, Cher wrote that she actually wasn't legally married to Sonny until 1968, four years after a press release claiming that the couple wed in Tijuana, Mexico, was issued.
"The ceremony had to be done quickly and privately," the now-78-year-old wrote in her book, "so nobody would find out we had been faking our marriage from the beginning."
