George Clooney Mourns Death of Ocean’s Costar Scott L. Schwartz 

George Clooney expressed his sadness over the death of Ocean’s actor Scott L. Schwartz, who played Bruiser throughout the three heist films. Schwartz died at the age of 65, his rep confirmed.

George Clooney is mourning a member of his Ocean’s Eleven team.

Scott L. Schwartz—an actor and former professional wrestler—died on Nov. 26 at the age of 65 from congestive heart failure, a representative confirmed to Variety.

“Those who know Scott personally associated him with being a jolly person, so full of life, a strong loving person, foodie and travel aficionado,” read a statement shared by the rep with Variety. “Scott truly loved life and everyone that he met along the way. When he wasn’t acting, wrestling or telling jokes he spent his time visiting children with cancer at children’s hospitals.”

Following the news of his death, Clooney likewise shared a statement mourning Schwartz’s loss in which he alluded to their time working together in the Ocean’s franchise: Clooney’s Danny Ocean hires Schwartz’s Bruiser to set up a fake fight in Ocean’s Eleven, a role Schwartz reprised in the following two heist movies.

“I’m sorry to hear that Scott is gone,” Clooney shared with Variety. “We did three films together and I’ve never been so gently punched. He was a gentle soul and he will be dearly missed.”

A Philadelphia native, at 6 feet, 10 inches tall, Schwartz began his career as a professional wrestler, entering the scene in 1979 under the name “Giant David,” also going by the name “The Israeli Commando” during his tenure in the sport before heading to Hollywood.

In addition to work as a stuntman, Schwartz acted in a number of productions throughout his career. Among his credits are series The Mentalist, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Young and the Restless and films Fun with Dick and Jane, Starsky & Hutch and The Scorpion King.

According to Variety, he also wrote, directed and acted in 2010’s Changing Hands, which starred his Ocean’s costar Eddie Jemison.

Schwartz is survived by his wife, Misty, children Angela and Adam, mother-in-law Brenda, cousins Sherry and Duwayne and aunt Penni

Misty told The Hollywood Reporter Schwartz was “most proud of his charity work,” which earned him the Glass Slipper Award from the Children’s Hospital of Orange County. Other recipients of the honor include David Beckham and Gwen Stefani.

She continued of her late husband, “Most people associate Scott with the movies, but those who know him personally associated him with being a jolly person, so full of life, a strong loving person, foodie and travel aficionado. [He] truly loved life and everyone that he met along the way.”
