It would seem that a scoop of Chipotle guacamole is now gonna cost you even more extra.

The fast food chain announced Dec. 5 that it would be raising its menu prices by 2%, explaining that it was a necessary change to make across its over 3,500 restaurants due to the current economic situation, according to NBC News.

"For the first time in over a year," Chipotle's chief corporate affairs officer Laurie Schalow said in a statement via the outlet, "we have taken a modest price increase of approximately 2% nationally to offset inflation."

And as expected, fans were disappointed to hear the news.

"Chipotle announced they are raising prices again by 2%," one user wrote on X, formerly Twitter, Dec. 5. "We have to find somewhere else because ain't no way."

Another added, "Chipotle raising their prices again. Man end of an era for me."

One X user reflected on Chipotle's past, writing, "Chipotle raising the prices 2% is just outrageous!! I want my $8 burritos back!!"

However, the new price hike is not the only reason the Mexican chain has been in the news of late, as fans took to social media earlier this year to complain about what they considered to be shrinking portion sizes.

But as former CEO Brian Niccol (who left in August to head up Starbucks) explained in July, the company had never put out a directive to make the portion sizes smaller.

"Getting the feedback caused us to relook at our execution across our entire system," he said in an earnings call to investors, per NBC News. "We have focused in on those outlier portion scores based on consumer surveys."

At the time, Niccol noted that there were about 10% of Chipotle restaurants that had to be brought to the "right standards" for portion sizes.

"We are re-emphasizing training and coaching round ensuring we are consistently making bowls and burritos correct," he added. "We have also leaned in and re-emphasized generous portions across all of our restaurants."

According to Niccol, getting that large portion size was "a core brand equity of Chipotle."
