Watch: ‘Today's’ Sheinelle Jones Absent From Show Due to "Family Health Matter"

Sheinelle Jones is taking a step back.

The Today cohost shared that she taking time away from the morning show due to a personal matter in a message shared to Instagram Jan. 15.

"Hi everybody...I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I've been absent from the show," Sheinelle shared in her message posted to social media. "I want to share with you that I'm taking time to deal with a family health matter. It's not lost on [me] how lucky I am to have not only the support of my Today Show family, but to also have all of you. Your kindness means so much to me. I'll see you soon."

Her cohosts Craig Melvin and Savannah Guthrie also announced the news during the show's Jan. 15 episode, noting, "We know so many of you have been asking about Sheinelle and missing her, and we miss her too."

Sheinelle's personal update comes after fans expressed concern over her absence from the show's recent episodes, one of which included cohost Hoda Kotb's final day.

After it was announced late last year that her colleague Craig would take over as coanchor, the NBC Nightly News host shared the words of encouragement Sheinelle gave him amid this new chapter in his career.

"You and I had a great conversation yesterday that I needed," Craig told his cohost during a November 2024 episode. "You were like today, just receive it,'" adding that he'll still remain by Sheinelle's side during the third hour of the morning broadcast.

"I said to you a few weeks ago," he continued, "'I've worked with you longer than anyone else in my career at this point.'" Sheinelle's simple response to that fact? "It's so nutty."

Indeed, the mom of three has been open about just how much her time on the show means to her, which came after she joined in 2015.

"I’m thankful for good mornings and I’m thankful for you!" she wrote in a March 2024 Instagram post featuring a photo of her and her cohosts. "Even when I don’t feel like it some days walking in, these folks make my heart happy and I always leave encouraged! I hope we can do the same for you too."
