Shemar Moore still has some action left in him.
After the news that S.W.A.T., which was briefly canceled in 2023 before a surprise reversal, was once again coming to an end, the actor expressed his sadness over the show’s second abrupt ending.
“S.W.A.T. season eight, here we are, three weeks away from the finale we are canceled again,” Shemar, 54, said in a video posted on Instagram March 6. “It sucks, it’s sad. I had to give a speech today on set to the crew. And obviously I’m biased, the most amazing crew in Hollywood. Just good people, no jerks. People who show up, sacrifice here and there for their families, and work their tails off to make S.W.A.T.”
“Uncancelled, twice, two years in a row. Now I don’t know my history, but how many shows get to say that? I’m gonna say none or I’m gonna say that we’re close to one of the none,” he continued. “But we did that, we did that. We are so proud.”
Shamar—who starred alongside Jay Harrington and David Lim in the CBS drama—added that he doesn’t think the network made the right call pulling the plug on the series.
“We made a hit television show that the world loved to watch,” he said. “So, I say to CBS, if you’re done, I know it’s about money, optics, politics, I don’t think you’re making the right choice.”
And while he wasn’t happy with the decision CBS made, he had nothing but love for the station that has been a home for him during his three decades in the entertainment business.
“But if you are done, I say thank you” Shemar said. “Genuinely, honestly from my heart. Because my 31st anniversary of being in this game—31 years—is 90 percent because of you CBS. Young and the Restless, Criminal Minds and now S.W.A.T. Thank you for the honor. Thank you for the opportunity. Thank you for the ride. If you change your mind, I promise you you’ll make a lot of people smile.”
Still, he did express being open to continuing the show at a new home.
“Hey Netflix, how you doing?” he quipped. “Netflix, if you’re interested in a show that is in autopilot that the world is watching we’d love to come play. NBC, FOX, ABC. Hey, you want to come flirt with me? You’re invited to the barbecue.”
“Trust me, all of us, the family over at S.W.A.T. we ain’t done chasing bad guys, and helicopter chases and motorcycle chases and car chases and blowing up stuff,” he added. “We ain’t done. But if you forced us to be finished, we simply say thank you. Because we had a good run. We make it happen. We make people smile. People are tuning in. But if it is indeed done, I bow out gracefully.”
While he’s off-screen for the time being, Shemar said that he’ll be busy chasing someone else: his and ex-girlfriend Jesiree Dizon’s 4-year-old daughter, Frankie.
“I am so so so excited for the next chapter of my life,” the Sonic the Hedgehog star said. “In my career and as a daddy to my daughter Frankie. I ain’t done yet. I aint done, my knees are ready, I lost 20 lbs. I’m ready to go. But if you’re done CBS I say thank you.”
