Melissa Rivers’ biggest show yet was still going to go on.
Joan Rivers and Edgar Rosenberg’s daughter officially tied the knot with Los Angeles attorney Steve Mitchel in an intimate Wyoming ceremony March 15, despite the couple’s home burning down just two months before.
“We were going to cancel,” Melissa—who got engaged to Steve in November 2023—told People in an article published March 20. “I was tapping out, like ‘I just can’t do this.’ And that’s when my friends stepped in and said, ‘We are doing this’ because a number of people who are coming lost their homes too, and they were like, ‘Thank God we have this to look forward to.’”
Ultimately, the 57-year-old decided that the celebration of the couple’s major milestone was just what she—and her friends—needed. As she put it, “I also knew that we were all going to want to go away for a weekend to get out of all this chaos and rest our brains.”
And so the pair booked the Four Seasons in Jackson Hole, where they exchanged vows in front of 150 guests. The couple included the Rivers family’s longtime executive assistant Sabrina Lott Miller to officiate their nuptials, which took place on the dance floor of their venue.
Afterward, the couple danced to Talking Heads’ “Burning Down the House” as a cheeky nod to losing their Palisades home in January, before moving into the more situationally appropriate “I Say A Little Prayer” by Arethra Franklin.
Although Melissa’s late parents were not able to be a part of the special day, she included a subtle homage to her mother Joan by gifting her guests bee brooches to wear, which was often a signature part of the Fashion Police host’s wardrobe and served Joan’s favorite chocolate cake from Hf Bar Ranch in Wyoming for dessert. Melissa’s 24-year-old son Cooper—whom she shares with ex John Endecott—gave a speech.
The television host noted that while the fires almost threw a wrench in their wedding planning, the ordeal ended up bringing her and Steve closer together and emphasized that their big day was “perfect.”
“When we were planning it, our goal was simple: throw a party and have a wedding ceremony break out somewhere in the middle," she added to People. “And you know what? We nailed it. People were meeting, laughing, and by the end of the night, strangers were acting like old friends.”
