Met Gala 2025: Megan Thee Stallion, Halle Bailey and More Stars Break Rules to Take Selfies Inside

The 2025 Met Gala may have a "No Selfies" policy, but that didn't stop celebrities such as Angela Bassett and Halle Bailey from taking their own photos insider the fashion fundraiser on May 5.

POV: When celebrities are at the 2025 Met Gala

Though it's known that the use of phones at the prestigious fashion event is highly discouraged, many guests at this year's party—themed "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" with a "Tailored for You" dress code—couldn't help but take a few photos on their personal devices once inside New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art May 5. Take Megan Thee Stallion, who snuck a selfie with a list of celebs including Angel Reese and Doechii during dinner inside the event.

Megan's "Hottie Cam"—as she called it on Instagram—captured her, the WNBA star and "DENIAL IS A RIVER" artist trying the caviar cornbread, lobster rolls and more hors d'oeuvres. In another clip from her video, Megan, 30, quips,  "We not supposed to have our phones," as Tracee Ellis Ross jokingly tells her to "put it away."

Filming other stars inside the function, the "Bigger in Texas" rapper shared a moment with Angela Bassett, Serena Williams and Ciara

Meanwhile, Questlove was spotted with a host of celebs including Cynthia Erivo, Ayo Edebiri, Tracee Ellis Ross, Brian Tyree Henry, Evan Ross and more in a bathroom selfie posted on Instagram.

Before snapping the star-studded pic inside of the crowded bathroom, the Roots drummer encouraged everyone to say, "Black s--t," in honor of the night's theme. As the stars knowingly smiled for the moment, they flocked out of the bathroom in laughter, after capturing the moment.

Halle Bailey also broke the rules as she was photographed snapping a selfie with Sydney Sweeney and White Lotus star Lisa

While Met Gala organizers sent out an invite prohibiting guests from snapping their own photos a decade ago at the 2015 gathering, it seems the infamous "No Selfies" guideline has been laxed in recent years. After all, the museum bathroom has practically been turned into an impromptu photo opp, with everyone from Kylie Jenner to Billie Eilish skirting the policy for a mirror selfie.

Last year, Lizzo took it up a notch, filming a TikTok dance with Uma Thurman and designer Stella McCartney inside the lavatory. And to prove just how iconic the location has become on Met Gala night, the "Pretty Hurts" rapper simply wrote in the caption at the time, "Met bathroom."

But don't expect Met Gala lead chair Anna Wintour to take part in this rule-bending tradition. As the Vogue editor-in-chief noted in a 2014 video for the magazine, "I've never taken a selfie and I don't plan to start now."

In fact, the 75-year-old is not a fan of phones on Met Gala night—period.

"Anna is sort of an old-school traditionalist," former Vogue staffer Sylvana Ward Durrett explained to the New York Post in 2016. "She likes a dinner party where people are actually speaking to each other."

So, what happens when Anna sees people on their phones at the Met Gala? "We aren't sitting over people's shoulders," Sylvana shared, "but if it's an obvious thing we might gently remind them."
