Ashley Graham Reveals Last Minute Met Gala Wardrobe Malfunction—And How She Fixed It

Ashley Graham’s appearance at the 2025 Met Gala kicked off on a chaotic note as she revealed she had to tend to a last-minute wardrobe malfunction before hitting the red carpet.

Ashley Graham’s 2025 Met Gala look was even slicker than it looked.

The model, who attended the costume ball in New York City May 5 wearing a gray pinstripe suit dress, revealed she added a subtle accessory to her ensemble moments before heading to the Metropolitan Museum of Art due to an unexpected incident involving mint oil.

“I would say my only regret is that I didn't have more brooches,” she wrote in a post on her Substack May 22. “The reason I even had one brooch is because of my last-minute oil spill.”

Once the damage was done, Ashley—who shares kids Isaac, 5, and twins Malachi and Roman, 3, with husband Justin Ervin—scrambled with her team to resolve the matter.

“I yanked my shoes on and we ran downstairs (the elevator stopped working!) and tried our best to get it out,” she explained. “But sure enough, we all realized there's nothing that's going to help, except for some Dawn and a dry cleaner possibly.”

With no time to spare, the 37-year-old came to her own rescue with a “game time decision” to salvage her outfit.

“I am tooting my own horn here,” she admitted, “it was my bright idea to use a diamond spectrum from Nikos Koulis as a brooch.”

While her appearance at the soiree kicked off with some chaos, Ashley is used to a little drama at the Met Gala—the good kind, that is. In 2024, she arrived in a dazzling skin-tight black gown that took quite a bit of effort to put together.

“It took over 500 hours,” she told E! at the time. “Handmade—all these little crystals. It's all mesh.”

And if the gown looked breathtaking, that’s because it actually was.

“I can barely breathe,” she joked. “The organs have been moved together. As you can see, this is not my normal waist.”
