Citizens of Oz, the Wicked: For Good trailer has arrived, and it is absolutely wonderful.
Six months after the film first released in theaters, the highly anticipated sequel’s trailer dropped June 4, bringing fans back to Oz with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, who reprise their Oscar-nominated roles as enemies turned best friends, Glinda and Elphaba.
In the clip, fans got to hear snippets of the songs "No Good Deed" and "For Good," and see the fallout of Elphaba's decision to defy the wizard—sending Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) hot on her trail.
Elphaba (Cynthia) also reunites with Glinda (Ariana) for an emotional moment, telling her, "You're the only friend I ever had," before Glinda retorts, "And I've had so many friends."
Back on the big screen for one short day, Jon M. Chu’s Wicked also re-released in theaters on June 4, giving audiences a peek behind the curtain with the trailer for the sequel, releasing in theaters on November 21, 2025, and bringing to life Act Two of the musical.
Ahead of the trailer, Universal Pictures shared a teaser, showing each of the cast members with a piano version of “For Good” as Ariana and Cynthia sing the iconic lyric “I have been changed,” into the title screen Wicked: For Good.
Cynthia is first to appear, debuting a new look with her hair down paired with Elphaba’s witch hat, transforming into the Wicked Witch of the West. The clip then shows Prince Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh’s Madame Morrible, and the Wizard himself, Jeff Goldblum. Ethan Slater–who has been romantically linked to Ariana since July 2023–appears next, followed by Marissa Bode as Nessarose.
Ariana, who waves Glinda’s magic wand into the title, has also changed, swapping her Shiz University uniform for a new gown and tiara.
The last time we traveled down to the Emerald City, audiences watched as Elphaba achieved her lifelong dream to visit the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, entering to see the Wizard arm-in-arm with Glinda. However, as it becomes clear the harm to the animals Elphaba came to defend is at the hands of the Wizard, she flees with the Grimmerie, Oz’s spellbook.
Glinda and Elphaba, divided by their future aspirations and beliefs, say a tearful goodbye to Act One’s powerful final ballad, “Defying Gravity.” The Wicked Witch flees away on her broomstick, officially the villain of Oz.
Heading back down the yellow brick road, Wicked: For Good picks up on the second act of the musical: Elphaba continuing to fight for the animals while being branded as an enemy of the state, and Glinda serving Oz as the “Good Witch.” And of course, there is a new visitor from Kansas that arrives to Munchkinland. But for the film’s Oscar-nominated director, Wicked: For Good will be just as much of an emotional journey for the characters as the first.
“If movie one is about choices,” Jon told E! News Jan. 5, “movie two is about consequences.”
He continued, “How difficult, how messy the nuances become when two characters must find their way, and yet their destinations are so different from each other, and how heartbreaking and courageous that can be for both as they develop.”
