Tallulah Willis is opening up about a difficult chapter.
The 31-year-old—whose parents are Bruce Willis and Demi Moore—shared a moving reflection on her health journey, including how far she’s come since a time in her life when her struggle with anorexia was causing her hair to fall out.
Sharing images from when she was at a recovery facility in 2022, in which her hair was cropped close to her head and was noticeably thinning, Tallulah detailed how her unhealthy mindset at the time viewed the hair loss.
“I want to talk about how I for a long time in my life I would have seen those patches of bare skin blurring through sparse hairs as a badge of honor,” she wrote in the caption of her June 29 post. “‘I was sick enough to make you look.’”
She added how while at the facility, she sometimes needed to use a wheelchair because her leg muscles had “atrophied so badly.”
And indeed, the physical recovery process has been a long one. As she noted, “I’m still working to build back the muscles decimated during those many many years.”
Tallulah also noted how her hair was so thin she needed to use small clips to hold it in place, and often the clips would fall out there was “nothing to grab into.” She said she kept the images from this time cropped, adding, “This truly isn’t a stage to show off how I nearly starved to death (publicly!)”
But alongside the images from this period of her life were more recent photos, in which Tallulah—who became engaged to fiancé Justin Acee in December—boasts a full, healthy head of hair.
“I went searching for the ‘AFTER’ pictures from the last few months and smiled the whole time,” she continued. “I didn’t realize how comforting a big bun could feel like, how sexy it feels for your hair bounce a little when you walk. I didn’t value myself or my health but I am of the lucky who have made it to the other side.”
This is not the first time Tallulah has opened up about her eating disorder in the hopes of helping others, and she noted, “It only feels right to make my recovery as well.”
“I want to heal and hug and soothe every busy mind that’s out there still hurting,” she concluded. “Keep going I love u all.”
And thankfully, Tallulah has a support system in her fiancé, her parents and sisters Rumer Willis, 36, and Scout Willis, 33. Her family tree also includes younger sisters Mabel Willis, 13, and Evelyn Willis, 11, whom Bruce welcomed with wife Emma Heming Willis.
