This awkward interview moment will make you want to keep your eyes wide shut.
Keith Urban seemed to abruptly end a radio interview with Australia’s Mix 102.3’s Hayley & Max in the Morning after host Max Burford asked the musician a personal question about wife Nicole Kidman.
While the “Somebody Like You” singer appeared game for the show’s “Wall of Truth” segment, things took a turn after Max asked about Nicole’s film A Family Affair, in which she starred alongside Zac Efron and Joey King.
“The first thing I thought of with your beautiful wife, Nicole Kidman, being on so many great movies, TV shows all the time,” Max began. “What does Keith Urban think when he sees his beautiful wife with beautiful younger men like Zac Efron having these beautiful love scenes on TV and radio?”
And suddenly, Keith was gone from the Zoom call.
“He's disconnected from Zoom,” a radio staff person said when Max and cohost Hayley Peterson questioned what had just happened. “I think his team hung up on us because they didn't want us to ask that question.”
While Max was in disbelief, confirming that the radio show hadn’t been warned ahead of time not to ask personal questions, Hayley shared she’d been worried about this exact scenario.
When Max noted, “But he was, like, smiling,” his cohost replied, “I know, but he doesn't like the personal stuff. Oh, I knew that would happen. We’ve upset him.”
After Max asked Hayley why she hadn’t stopped him, in that case, she confirmed she’d tried to avoid the situation.
“That’s I said to you, I don't want to have a part of this because I don't want to ask these questions,” Hayley replied. “Because he'll hate us. I don't want to make him feel uncomfortable.”
The radio host then said she was trying to get Keith’s publicist on the phone, but she feared they were being “ghosted.”
“I knew that was going to happen,” Hayley lamented. “I hate myself.”
E! News reached out to Keith’s reps for comment but has not yet heard back.
