Colin Jost isn’t scared of killer dinosaurs.
Or seeing a paleontologist getting close to Scarlett Johansson. The Saturday Night Live star had a lighthearted reaction to his wife’s viral kiss with her Jurassic Park Rebirth costar, Jonathan Bailey, at two of the film’s premieres.
“I guess in Jurassic Park terms, the attack always comes from the raptor you never thought was there. Of all the threats out there, I wasn’t thinking it was Jonathan,” Colin, 43, joked in a July 10 interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I think it’s going to be OK. People really blew it out of proportion. If someone kisses their friend hello, it’s pretty nice.”
Indeed, that friendly gesture has become the norm for Scarlett and Jonathan. The two first shared a kiss at the film’s London premiere on June 17, when they posed on the red carpet alongside their castmates Rupert Friend and Mahershala Ali. They continued the tradition six days later, greeting each other with a smooch at the New York premiere on June 23.
But despite their cozy connection, the comedian—who shares son Cosmo, 3, with Scarlett—emphasized the kisses aren’t making any suggestion about the state of his marriage.
“Jonathan is an out gay man—it didn’t seem like the biggest threat,” he continued. “Jonathan and I were at the red carpet like, ‘I guess we have to kiss now? Will that close the loop?”
And while the Bridgerton star hasn’t responded to the offer from Colin, Jonathan also confirmed his exchange with Scarlett—also mom to 10-year-old daughter Rose with ex Romain Dauriac—was a lighthearted salute to their friendship.
“I believe in being able to show love in all different ways,” the 37-year-old told Entertainment Tonight at the New York premiere. “And if you can’t kiss your friends... life’s too short not to.”
The Black Widow star, 40, echoed the sentiment shortly after.
“He’s a lovable guy,” Scarlett explained during her June 25 appearance on Today. “What can I say? We’re just friendly people.”
