Watch: Pete Davidson Feels “Guilty” After Girlfriend Elsie Hewitt Was Forced to Announce Pregnancy

Pete Davidson's dream is coming true.

While the Saturday Night Live alum's profile in the comedy world rose on the strength of his self-deprecating, I-still-live-with-my-mom shtick—despite his stacked dating history and seeming readiness to marry Ariana Grande at one point—he has actually been eager to be a father for some time.

So, when girlfriend Elsie Hewitt shared in July that they were expecting a baby just a few months after taking their romance public—"Welp," the pregnant model captioned her Instagram post, "now everyone knows we have sex"—it stood to reason that Davidson was over the moon.

“I’m excited to be a dad,” he said during a surprise appearance on SNL's "Weekend Update" Nov. 8, “and give it all the energy and enthusiasm I never had for this show.”

All joking aside, the 32-year-old told E! News in July that he felt "very lucky and very, very happy."

Having lost his own father—New York firefighter Scott Davidson—on 9/11 when he was only 7, the King of Staten Island actor was especially looking forward to "being able to take care of something and show it the childhood I didn’t have. I assume you just try to give them what you didn’t have and, what you didn’t like, not do it."

And Davidson has actually been getting into character for awhile.

“My favorite thing ever, which I have yet to achieve, I wanna have a kid," Davidson said on Kevin Hart's Hard to Hart in 2022. "That’s like my dream. It’s like, super corny."

But, he continued, “That’s kind of what I’m just preparing for now, is just trying to be as good as a dude, develop and get better so, when that happens, it’s just easier.”

And then Davidson found the person to take that massive life step with.

He and Hewitt were first romantically linked in March and, by the time they made their red carpet debut at NYC's Blossom Ball in May, they were already living together.

While Davidson's personal life was extremely out in the open earlier in his career, from his gallows-humor jokes about his dad's death to the very public nature of his short-lived engagement to Grande, a relationship with Kim Kardashian that made it onto The Kardashians, etc., he has been more cautious about his privacy in recent years.

Which doesn't mean he became a hermit or anything, but he's been playing his heart cards closer to his chest.

And Hewitt is mainly following suit, but she couldn't help singing Davidson's praises as a partner when they stepped out together at the Blossom Ball, benefiting the Endometriosis Foundation of America.

“He is so incredible," the Upon Waking actress told People May 15. "Honestly, best person I’ve ever met, and I’m so grateful that he’s here tonight."

And as someone living with endometriosis, his support hit close to home.

When her condition flares up, she explained, “Pete sets me up with a little heating pad, and it’s very sweet, and I just eat whatever I like."

They "snuggle up and watch a movie and get cozy," Hewitt added. "Everyone deserves a Pete."

Davidson, however, can't help but think she deserves better sometimes, at least when it comes to having to deal with all the attention that goes hand-in-hand with dating him, multiplied exponentially by their baby on the way.

“I feel bad for my girl because I bring a lot of s--t,” he said during an Aug. 13 interview on The Breakfast Club. “Anything I do or she does now is gonna be a thing.”

She's never complained about it, he noted, but, “She’s a very private person and she’s the one doing all the work. It’s supposed to be a beautiful experience.”

And yet it doesn't sound as if Hewitt is anything less than thrilled.

"I was 100 percent convinced that I was infertile and was not going to be able to have kids," she told People in October, discussing her decision to have surgery to treat the endometriosis she was diagnosed with in November 2024. "When I found out I was pregnant...I was shocked, but also, I felt like I knew. It's weirdly instinctual."

And she couldn't think of a better person than Davidson to be starting a family with.

"For both of us, we're very conscious of not putting pressure on this," she explained. "Like, 'This child is going to fill a void or be this thing that I never had,' type thing. But I do think that there is this really healing aspect of knowing that we're going to be able to give a child the life and the support and the love and the family vibe that we don't feel like we had."

Pete Davidson's Stacked Dating History

Predicting that they're going to be "cool parents," Hewitt added, "I'm really proud that this is how it is and this is how it's going to be. I could not ask for a better father for my child. I'm so happy it's him."

Before the London native got a Pete, however, her dating history included romances with Jason Sudeikis and Benny Blanco, who's now engaged to Selena Gomez.

So she already knew that dating in the public eye can be hard.

Bordering on hellish at times, for Davidson.

"Because I’m ugly, they wrote about me," he told Page Six in February of what he took to be the theme of the coverage of his love life. "I was harassed for, like, five years and it made my life a living hell.”

Countless women would line up to state their opinion to the contrary about his looks, but Davidson's inner critic can't be tamed.

"I tell my friends that all the time if my childhood was fine I’d probably be a construction worker in Staten Island and be the happiest guy ever," he said on Hart to Hart. "But that weird s--t that it does to you, made me love comedy."

But what do you know, staying true to himself ended up being the move that led him to the status update he really wanted: Dad-to-be.

“I just want somebody who is funny, who makes me laugh, who is kind, who just thinks I'm the s--t,” Hewitt shared on a March 2024 episode of In Good Company. “I don’t care about how someone looks. I care about how someone carries themself and their sense of self.”

Before you swoon, check out the photographic evidence of just how cute Davidson and Hewitt are together:
